APPLE M1 CHIP – SMALL CHIP. GIANT LEAP.

Another milestone set by Apple with the development of a new processor chip. With the invention of this chip, Apple became the world’s first company that designs and manufactures its own processors i.e. Apple is now completely independent when it comes to the production of laptops. Till now Intel was the only company to manufacture chips and even in the MacBook Intel’s chip was used. So, from Intel to ARM-based Apple Silicon – this is a giant leap forward!

Why is developing one’s own chip a huge development?

We are in the fifth industrial revolution and this industrial revolution, unlike others, is based on Information Technology which in turn is based on computers. So with its new nano-chip, APPLE is the leader in this revolution and the firm which leads in this revolution will lead the world in the next decade to come.
Also, as the hardware, as well as software, is inbuilt Apple won’t have to share the revenue with any other firm. They themselves will control the working of the entire system which will also help them to ensure efficiency and also there is no chance for compromise in the performance of the product.

Why Apple has an edge over its competitors?

As the MacBook is already more popular and reliable, with M1 chips they have the freedom to modify their software as they wish because they can make relative changes to hardware as well. Now, the MacBook has the universal App Store pre-installed i.e. Laptops can function just like an iPhone.

Why is Apple’s ARM-based silicon chip so special?

In traditional computing whenever a new processor has launched a performance leap of 15 percent, maximum, is seen.  With this M1 chip, they are claiming three extra performances i.e. performance leap of 300 percent which unheard of!
The size of this chip is 5 nanometers i.e. its size is as much as an electron.
The most impressive feature of this M1 chip is battery life. With size decreased battery life has increased substantially. This will enable laptops to have instant wake-up and sleep features.
According to them, users can expect a battery life of around 20 hours – mind-boggling, isn’t it?

What does this mean for the users?

Well, with the new MacBook users would be able to what they were doing before, just with more battery life and efficiency. But as this transition – from Intel chip to M1 ARM-based chip, is a complex process there can be some time before this is rolled out full-fledged and mass productions start. Cost wise this can be somewhat costly because of new processors but, rest assured it will be worth every penny!
