Katy Perry Recounts Orlando Bloom’s Suavely Clumsy Helicopter Proposal

Katy Perry

You don’t hear a whole lot about helicopter proposals anymore. Perhaps you just don’t hear a lot of proposals anymore, period. The Great Public Proposal Boom of 2012 has settled down, for better or for better. But, if the summertime of célébrité suggestions has taught us anything, it’s that there is still a need for knowledge about célébrité proposals.

Luckily, Katy Perry experienced one and she is willing to talk. Orlando Bloom, forever an English elf with stunning silvan hair, proposed on Valentine’s Day. Therefore, while she was on Jimmy Kimmel to promote American Idol, the singer gave an in-depth account of how Bloom did it. In the horse’s mouth to Kimmel’s ears now to your eyes: they went to dinner and they were planning to”go see some art,” but instead pulled up to a helicopter.

“The funny part is we had Champagne in the helicopter along with also the [ring] box was in his pocket and he had written down everything he wanted to say in a note,” she said. “So I’m reading it, but I’m hearing the Champagne is busted, the bottle’s everywhere… He is pulling out this box that’s too big for his jacket pocket rips his coat pocket, and his elbow goes into the Champagne.” It really is 2012.

Anyway, the ride went smoothly otherwise, which is good –just think about the things that could go wrong during a helicopter proposal. They landed on a big building and Perry’s family was there to greet the couple. It bodes well for an aerially spectacular wedding, of which there are no actual details yet.

On Kimmel, Perry also slipped in a little story. Bloom stole an In-N-Out burger off her table. She was sitting with Denzel Washington, but just had eyes for the Hamburglar.
