The Oldest Sports Played By Human Beings
The connection between humans and sports goes back a long time. Sports have always been a source of entertainment for people over the ages. It has also been a platform for people to compete for various reasons. There are several oldest sports which have evolved over time like cricket and football, which are still played today and also gaining in popularity. Other than this, sports has also grown into being a career option for many which show the evolution. In this article, we will look at some of the oldest sports that have been played by humans.
- Gymnastics: Gymnastics is a sport that has its origins in Greece. It is considered to be one of the oldest sports with roots from ancient times. It involves various acrobatics with the perfect combination of flexibility, strength, and agility. It was included in the Olympics in the year 1869 and has been a popular attraction. Now it has included events like Pommel Horse, Still Rings, and Floor Exercise.
- Polo: An ancient sport that was invented in the 4th century, Polo has still managed to retain its popularity. Being one of the oldest sports, polo is a part of many royal traditions where it is played as a leisure sport. In this sport, a person sitting on a horse has to use a long handle to push a wooden ball into the opponent’s goal. Although you won’t find polo being played as commonly as a sport like football, you will certainly spot its presence in the events of the royals.
- Boxing: Boxing finds its origins in Greece in period 6th century BC. There has been a great advancement in the technique and equipment used in boxing. In the early days in ancient Rome, boxers used to fight each other without any gloves or properly cushioned rings. Nowadays you can see that the gloves and boxing rings are pretty well developed to prevent any injuries. It is a part of the Olympic games and still is very popular.
