The Race for Supreme Court Vacancy Continues
Donald Trump, the president of The United States is racing to fill the recently emptied seat with the death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg at the age of 87 due to complications of her cancer before the 3rd of November, the official election day as they can act as a conservative replacement.
The Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell states that he will support President Trump and his agenda, particularly his outstanding appointments to the federal judiciary, and later added President Trump’s nomination will receive a vote on the floor of the United States Senate. The favoritism can be clearly seen by Mitch McConnell as back in 2016 when the present President Barack Obama nominated Merrick Garland nearly nine months prior to the election, after the death of Antonin Scalia but denied but has accepted Trump’s nomination three weeks prior to the election, though whoever Trump picks his nominee, he is as a way to distract from coronavirus pandemic and alter the allegations of the mismanagement of it.
The two major parties active in the USA are Democrats and Republicans. The Democrats are in the hopes of keeping the seat empty until a new government comes in power but the Republicans have different plans for it as two of the Republicans senator have rushed to file for the position.
A new poll showed that the American public opposes Trump’s plan to rush a new justice in the court, with a slide vote of 62% claims that Guisburg’s seat should be after the new government forms after the November election, including the vast majority of Democrats and even half of Republican.
The average Supreme Court confirmation takes about seventy days from the nomination, and it was not clear how the Senate would proceed with just forty-two days as of Tuesday, especially with the annual spending bill and the coronavirus relief packages still to be addressed. Even Senate leaders seemed uncertain about how the process would play out.
