FA Cup Semi Final Draw: Manchester City, Brighton, Wolves, Watford into Battle

FA Cup Semi Final

The FA Cup semi-final draw has taken place, with Manchester City, Wolves, Watford and Brighton discovering who they will face in the fight to reach this year’s final. City are overwhelming favorites to win the world’s oldest football competition this season, and they have been drawn against Brighton.

Wolves beat Manchester United 2-1 at Molineux to reach the FA Cup semi-finals for the first time since 1998. The home side grabbed a second on the counter-attack when Jimenez helped on a clearance upfield, which Diogo Jota latched onto to hold off Luke Shaw before beating Sergio Romero with a low shot in the 76th minute. United scored a late consolation through Marcus Rashford during the fifth minute of added time.

In Saturday’s late afternoon kick-off, Premier League leaders Manchester City survived an almighty scare as they came from 2-0 down to beat Championship outfit Swansea 3-2. Sergio Aguero’s 88th-minute header at the Liberty Stadium kept City’s quadruple dream alive when it looked for a long time it look destined to end.

The Lions appeared on course for what would have been a routine and well-deserved victory as Alex Pearce’s 70th-minute header and an Aiden O’Brien goal had them two goals ahead with two minutes left on the clock.

But Brighton’s substitutes got them out of trouble, Jurgen Locadia halving the deficit with a fine strike before David Martin flapped badly at a last-gasp Solly March free-kick to draw the visitors level at 2-2 and send the tie into extra-time.

On the subject of pulling heavy favourites City in the last four, the Brighton manager, Chris Hughton, said: “All three other teams probably didn’t want to play Man City but at the moment we are so pleased to go through and if we don’t think we can win, then there is no point going into the tie.

We are up against one of the best sides in the country, but on the day, we have a chance and we will have to have everything go our way.”

The semi-final ties will be played on Saturday 6 April and Sunday 7 April.
