After foldable screen and TV it is time move to foldable phones. Samsung has already begun the race by teasing with its foldable phone preview on an event. On that event they only showcased how it will bent, not the whole phone with specs. But on Wednesday Chinese rival company Xiaomi launched its new foldable phone teaser and it is what a foldable phone should look and work like. Should Samsung need to worry about this move of Xiaomi.

In a video posted to Weibo, China’s answer to Twitter, Xiaomi co-founder and president Bin Lin plays a series of videos on a flat, rectangular device that looks like a tablet. Then he folds the right and left edges of the screen back on itself and continues using the device in typical smartphone mode.

Xiaomi also didn’t reveal any of the specific details of the smartphone same the way Samsung did. They both just teased us in a finest way. Where Samsung’s phone can only be band once and that is from middle Xiaomi did something extra. They made double foldable phone that do not bends from the middle. They made it bends from the sides. And your area of work will remain uninterrupted. Lin Bin also stated that they conquered “a series of technical problems such as flexible folding screen technology, four-wheel drive folding shaft technology, flexible cover technology, and MIUI adaptation.”

You’ll likely have to wait a bit before you can buy the device, and that is if it makes it past the prototype stage. Here’s a translation of the executive’s post on Weibo:

“Xiaomi’s dual-folding phone is coming! After tackling flexible folding display, four-way folding hinge, flexible cover tech, MIUI adaptation and other technical challenges, we have made the first foldable phone, and should also be the world’s first dual-folding phone. This symmetrically dual-outer-folding form factor perfectly merges the experience of a tablet and a phone, it’s both practical and beautiful. Even though it’s still a prototype, we’re showing it to you all. Feel free to share, comment and like. If you all like it, we will consider mass producing it.

Also, we would like to give this prototype a name. What do you think?I have two: Mi Dual Flex, Mi MIX Flex. Suggestions are welcome!”
