Cardi B Says She Drugged and Robbed a Man, Now Defending Herself
In the clip from an Instagram Live recorded three years ago, the rapper said, “I had to go strip, I had to go, ‘Oh yeah, you want to f–k me? Yeah, yeah, yeah, let’s go back to this hotel,’ and I drugged n—–s up, and I robbed them. That’s what I used to do,” (via Hip Hop Ratchet) she explained.
For that, Cardi B on Tuesday defended herself against detractors after that Instagram video resurfaced that showed her recalling that she drugged and robbed men when she worked as a stripper.
“So I’m seeing on social media that [an Instagram] live I did 3 years ago has popped back up. A live where I talked about things I had to do in my past right or wrong that I felt I needed to do to make a living,” she wrote in a post on Tuesday. “I never claim (sic) to be perfect or come from a perfect world wit (sic) a perfect past I always speak my truth I always own my s–t.”
Cardi B, whose real name is Belcalis Almanzar, continued: “I was blessed to have been able to rise from that but so many women have not. Whether or not they were poor choices at the time I did what I had to do to survive.”
She also said that the men she spoke about were men she had dated and were “conscious and willing and aware”.
Cardi B Says She Drugged and Robbed a Man: Instagram React
The rapper originally posted the video in response to someone who said she did not deserve her success. She said she would drug and rob men who wanted to have sex with her during her time as a stripper in New York.
The Grammy-winning rapper initially brushed off the social media backlash in separate tweets on Sunday and Monday. But she addressed the controversy in a lengthy post on Tuesday and said that she has not glorified her past behavior or referred to it in her music because she is not proud of it.
