Tekashi 6ix9ine Pleads Guilty to Nine Charges, Will Cooperate with Prosecutors
The Brooklyn rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine is cooperating with federal prosecutors after pleading guilty to nine crimes and stating that he assisted other people to attempt to kill a gang member and joined an NYC gang that is violent.
The 22-year-old rapper, whose legal name is Daniel Hernandez entered the plea. Information relating to this was unsealed Friday in Manhattan federal court. Known almost as much for his tattooed look as because of his music, 6ix9ine proved to be a media phenomenon before becoming a title in hip-hop. He has 15.5 million followers on Instagram. His album Day69: Graduation Day was on iTunes after its February release among the top-sellers.
6ix9ine had a multiplatinum hit tune, Fefe, with Nicki Minaj, which peaked on the pop charts at # 3, and Stoopid he seemed intent on ruining his prospects to run away. He identified himself as a part of a street gang. He cautioned in Brooklyn to conduct in connection. In 2015, he had been sentenced for appearing in a movie in which a sex act was performed by a 13-year-old girl.
During the plea, 6ix9ine said he joined the Nine Trey Blood Gang at falls 2017 and aided gang members to try to kill a rival March. “I did so to keep or increase my own standing in Nine Trey,” he told Judge Paul a Engelmayer. He said he also “knew that another member of Trey needed a gun and discharged the gun”. The rapper said he helped other gang members rob people at gunpoint as part of a pledge by gang members to commit at least two offenses.
On 2 June last year, he said, he “paid a person to shoot at a rebellious member of Trey to scare him”. That firing, he added, happened in Manhattan. 6ix9ine said he was paid for participating at 2017 in the selling of a kilogram of cocaine. “I apologize to the court, to anyone who had been hurt, to my loved ones, friends, and lovers for what I’ve done and who I have let down,” 6ix9ine said.
Together with his bargain with prosecutors, 6ix9ine can gain leniency at sentencing from an otherwise mandatory minimum 47 years in prison when he admits to offenses and testifies truthfully. Sentencing was set for 23 January 2020. His attorney Dawn Florio stated 6ix9ine’s safety was a principal concern.
“At the very beginning of the situation once we found out that my client’s safety was at risk due to threats from his co-defendants, we’ve done everything to protect himself and his family,” she said, adding that these efforts continued. 6ix9ine has been housed at an undisclosed location in prison. “He has to be separated by the men and women who threatened him,” Florio said.
She said he was getting an email from fans. “All his fans love him and Danny enjoys all his fans. He enjoys hearing from his supporters,” she said. “For safety reasons, he’s not reacting to them at this stage.” rapper Bobby Shmurda.
