Stephen Hawkins: Life, Science, Discovery, Death

Stephen, Hawkins, Science, RIP,

“I’m not afraid of death but I’m in no hurry to die. I have so much I want to do first.”- Stephen Hawkins

These are the words from one of the world’s great theoretical physicist Stephen Hawkins. He made a big contribution in cosmology, quantum gravity and general relativity. He born on 8 January 1942 when world war was going on. This British boy was a good but not exceptional student back then. He once said that he wants to fully understand the universe. He had dreams to know why our universe is like this and why does it exist. But on the side full of sorrow, we just got words that he passed away at the age of 76.

His fellow scientist admires the composition of a brilliant mind in an ill body. They praise him by saying he is a symbol of unbounded possibilities of the human mind. Hawkins may be ill with the amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) but his mind was not. He just survived for more than 50 years. The illness was spreading very slowly into his body. While he was ill and it was spreading slowly in his body but his mind was always positive. He mentioned once that his work is improving while his body is getting worse.

HISTORY

Neil Tyson

The Guardian have listed some of his work in field of science on their website. They listed his work by years, that goes like this. In 1970 he worked in Singularity in gravitational collapse. Here they proved presence of singularity in big bang. Then in 1972 is worked on black hole and come up with law of black holes. These laws are like reflection of our thermodynamic’s laws. Also he gave another theorem called ‘no hair’ theorem. Then he goes again with black hole and by help of quantum physics he proved that black holes can vanish because the rediate heat. Just like this in ‘82 and ‘83 worked on birth of galaxy and wave function of universe.

His breath may have stopped but his work will always be with us. Many have worked and learned more from his work. He connected the culture and science together. All these years he just seeded the science into the generations and inspired many more.
