Whenever we refer to a country as a superpower we are actually stating how accomplished a country in various domains. A given country has to dominate these fields in order to classify as a superpower. These fields are the military, economy, technology, diplomatic relations, and culture. As of today, only the United States of America satisfies these conditions. But when we talk about the emerging superpowers we usually list down a few countries like China, India, The European Union, etc. In this article we will look at some of the factors in favor of each country, to become the next superpower.

  • China: China is a massive country in terms of size and population. It is the world’s 4th largest and most populous country. In terms of military, China is still behind the US but is one of the strongest in the world. In terms of economy, China is placed 2nd in the GDP rankings behind the US. It is currently the world’s manufacturing hub, with a majority of the factories of the big companies located in China. It is stated to be the economic leader in the coming years.
  • India: In terms of population, India is the second-most populous country in the world. But what is even impressive is that majority of this population is young. Apart from this, India is also given termed as one of the fastest-growing economies. It is currently the fifth largest country in terms of GDP and has a growth rate of about 7.5% over the past 10 years. India is also a global powerhouse in terms of military. It has the world’s third-largest defense force and also possesses nuclear weapons.
  • European Union: The European Union is basically a large country when you put together all the countries in Europe. They share a common currency known as Euro and have various trade agreements with each other. It has a large population which can contribute to its growth. The EU has the world’s second-largest economy in terms of nominal GDP and purchasing power parity GDP. Militarily it still lags behind the likes of the US, China, and India.
