Kanpur reaches the world’s first instance of Optic neuritis of Black fungus

Black-Fungus

Kanpur: The first victim with optic neuritis from black fungus has been recorded in Hallett Hospital in Kanpur. As a result of this optic neuritis, the patient’s eye nerves become inflamed, and the patient’s eye becomes blocked due to nerve damage. The claim is that this is not just the first case in a country but in a world where patients’ eyes are swollen. Due to nerve damage, the patient loses sight. As well as the approved patient treatment at Hallet, doctors also began researching him.

The patient was admitted to the hospital 15 days ago.

30-year-old Ashish, who did grieving from optic neuritis, was admitted 15 days before. She was suffering from black fungus. In line with the patient’s treatment by the Medical College, doctors have begun researching him. Optic neuritis reveals a new type of black fungus.

Drs. Parvez Khan, Head of Ophthalmology at Hallett Hospital, said that because of the black mold, many patients with arterial obstruction had arrived, treated, but this is the first patient with optic neuritis. Meanwhile, both of his eyes are badly affected. This fungal infection causes inflammation of the arteries and blood vessels because the patient loses sight.

Dr. Shalini Mohan of the Department of Ophthalmology said no such patient had visited any hospital in the country. We say this is the first patient with optic neuritis. We will complete a study on this patient, and it will be sent to journals abroad. We also read about cases of black fungus.

Cases of arterial obstruction increased after COVID-19.

Most patients had high blood sugar during corona treatment, resulting in which they also developed a dark fungus infection. If treatment is not available promptly, the patient’s eye may also be lost. Steroids are given to patients in the treatment of corona. According to doctors, only one patient with coronary artery disease survived the first wave of coronavirus. More than seven of its patients came in the second wave and are being treated at the hospital.

 Two patients were recently diagnosed.

Lately, due to the other wave of coronavirus disease, one patient lost his or her eye, and another patient lost both his or her sight due to infection. Medical college experts say the world’s first case was discovered in Delhi. Including two cases here, only three cases have been reported worldwide so far.

 What is optic neuritis?

Optic neuritis is an eye disease in which the optic nerve swells, which sends messages from the eye to the brain. The optic nerve is covered with a layer of an oily substance called Myelin. It instantly sends electrical impulses from the eye to the brain, converted into visual information. When the optic nerve burns, Myelin is damaged. Because fiber is not able to send messages to the brain, and as a result, visual acuity can be lost. Optic neuritis occurs suddenly where the eyes have blurred vision, and the person with it cannot see colors.
